CURRICULUM & COURSE SELECTION

The curriculum at Archbishop Carney Regional Secondary School is centered in Christ with the Catholicity infused into all areas within the curriculum. All students are introduced to the deep traditions of learning of all the different disciplines. In addition, classes are integrated with learning, assessment and the use of technology that strengthens and reinforces lessons with meaning and purpose. Our experienced faculty develop skills that help students to synthesize learning across the disciplines and prepares students for success in the 21st century. In addition, the extensive offerings in the visual and performing arts nurture the creativity and expression of our students.

ACRSS provides a curriculum which meets or exceeds the BC Ministry of Education graduation requirements. Exposure to the arts and applied skills complements a rigorous academic program that prepares students for successful post-secondary studies and/or opportunities. Physical Education is required until Grade 10 and students have a variety of opportunities to be physically active, both in scheduled classes and in an extensive athletics program.

The curriculum is developmental in all subject areas. While much of the Grade 8 and 9 program is compulsory, students have the opportunity to select an elective course that reflects their interest, particularly in fine arts and applied skills. Upon entering the Graduation Program (Grades 10-12), there are a wide range of options.
