Archbishop Carney Regional Secondary School (ACRSS) in Port Coquitlam has been organizing outstanding Christmas craft fairs for years. During that time they have drawn attention from independent craft makers and enthusiasts from all over Canada, with approximately 195 vendors participating in this renowned community event.
Due to the overwhelming response the fair receives yearly, and with spacing being at a premium, vendors are selected to participate by craftsmanship, individuality and reputation. All products are handmade through meticulous craftsmanship and care.
Items for purchase at the fair include festive Christmas crafts and decor, mouthwatering chocolates and candy, exquisite jewelry, finely crafted knitting, quilting and pottery, delicate glassware, body care, rich wood crafts, one of a kind paintings, delicious jams and preserves, various religious items, original bags, scarves and hats, paper crafts and candles, adorable children's toys, dolls and baby items, and other unique pieces. There is guaranteed to be something for everyone.
Over 2500 people attend the fair annually and the feedback from attendees and vendors is always stellar. Ada Stefanek, who crafts unique tree trimmings, has attended as a vendor at the craft fair for many years. “It’s always well attended and people come back every year to see what's new. Vendor selection is always good and the parent participation and assistance is just the best,” said Stefanek. “I look forward to this show every year and even though I now live in Kamloops I still attend as a vendor.”
Kat Murray from Kats Cakes: “I’ve heard a lot about the fair and that it is a great way to promote small homegrown businesses," said Murray. “I specialize in personalized and bespoke gingerbread houses with my best seller being a small 6” gingerbread house that is personalized with name, message and colour. I also make a lot of corporate gingerbread houses with edible business logos and even custom replicas of buildings.”
Expect a lively atmosphere, including festive rooms like the North Pole, Frosty’s Wonderland, Candy Cane Lane, Santa’s Workshop and Rudolph’s Runway. Passports will be given to attendees on arrival, encouraging them to visit each room where they will receive a stamp. Passports can then be submitted into a prize draw. There are also chances to win one of 30 spectacular gift baskets, all donated by craft fair vendors.
Attendees, as always, can take their pick of food and treat options from the semi-gourmet concession serving items that are sure to please the whole family.
In addition to raising funds for much needed school items, a bake sale is held at the fair in support of the schools Dry Grad celebration, as well the Bead for Life Charity organizes a booth in support of women in Uganda who make paper beads and craft them into jewelry.
The Archbishop Carney Craft Fair is the perfect venue to check off everyone on your Christmas list with original gifts you simply won't find anywhere else. Make a day of it with family and friend, share the festive atmosphere, meet the artists, sample the treats, and feel good not only about completing your Christmas shopping but also about giving back to your community this holiday season.
