LEARNING RESOURCE CENTRE

At Archbishop Carney Regional Secondary School, the Learning Resource Center provides support services to meet the learning needs of all students. We offer the following courses:

PROGRAM SUPPORT
This course, offered to students in Grades 8 to 12, is designed to accommodate students needing assistance to stay in a regular academic program. The course focuses on teaching study and test taking strategies, organizational and time management skills, as well as providing support for students’ academic classes. This course is usually taken in place of a second language.

LIFE SKILLS COURSES
For students who need a non-academic program, an individualized course of studies will be planned, aimed at learning skills for independent living.

PEER TUTORING
The LRC co-ordinates volunteer tutors who are available upon request by a student, parent or teacher. There is also a Peer Tutoring credit course for Grade 11 and 12 students. These tutors receive training and are then placed in a course to assist a teacher and students.

RESOURCES

A number of Assistive Technology programs are available for student use. This includes laptop computers, I-Pads, Audio Textbooks and assistive writing programs.

SUPPORT

The LRC is open from Monday to Thursday from 3 to 4 PM for Homework Support. This is a supervised time when students may work on homework or on missing assignments.

We also offer a separate setting for students to take tests and assessments.
