ATTRIBUTES OF A CARNEY GRADUATE:

INTELLECTUAL DEVELOPMENT


The graduate should achieve:

  • competency in reading, writing, mathematics, social studies, and science, using these skills to become knowledgeable and faith motivated decision makers and problem solvers;

  • the ability to use and understand information technologies in a morally responsible manner rooted in the teachings of the Gospel;

  • the ability to access, synthesize, and present information and use the knowledge of languages, to effectively communicate with a range of audiences as a witness of Christ;

  • an understanding that creativity is a vehicle to appreciate God’s Divinity through artistic and aesthetic expression;

  • the ability to think critically and solve problems in order to develop opinions, judgments and decisions by applying Catholic values and using information, knowledge, and wisdom;

  • an understanding of the importance of a lifelong commitment to continuous learning, including knowledge of their faith.

HUMAN & SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT

The graduate should achieve:

  • the knowledge, skills and Christian wisdom required to be socially responsible citizens who act in a caring and moral way, respecting all people as children of God and recognizing the rights of others to hold different ideas and beliefs;

  • the knowledge and understanding they need to participate in a democracy with the laws, rights, and responsibilities inherent in being a Canadian and global citizen and in accordance with the doctrines of the Catholic faith;

  • the understanding of the obligation to nurture the attitudes, knowledge and positive habits they need to be healthy individuals, responsible for physical, spiritual and emotional well being, bearing in mind that our bodies are gifts from God; 

  • the moral development and competencies to take the initiative to respond effectively to the needs of the wider society by improving their own and others’ quality of life;

  • an understanding of the importance of a lifelong commitment to spiritual development and living a life centered in Christ as a member of the Catholic community.

VOCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The graduate should achieve:

  • the confidence and competencies they need to be self-directed individuals who display initiative, set priorities, establish goals, discern God’s plan for their life, and take responsibility for pursuing those goals in an ever-changing society;

  • knowledge and understanding of the range of career choices leading to a personal vocation, the prospects for personal fulfillment within their chosen field and the actions required to pursue specific career paths in order to strengthen and promote a Catholic community;

  • experience in planning for, and working towards, career and life goals in order to contribute to a society based on Catholic virtues through personal development and service to others;

  • the ability to collaboratively contribute and find meaning and dignity in their vocation which respects the rights of all and contributes to the common good.
